WTF is Flow State Cooking?

I’m not a chef, or a nutritionist, or a doctor…I’m a curious cook.

  • I was curious why cooking at home seemed like an arduous and unrewarding task.

  • I was curious why we had so many food options and yet so many food-related diseases. (The CDC estimated that 13% of Americans had diabetes in 2020.)

  • I was curious why we waste about a third of the food we produced while so many people were starving.

When my grandmother died in her 80s, I knew something must be wrong with our modern life choices. Her mother had lived to over 100 without indoor plumbing. How could I have every modern advantage and still be headed for a premature death?

I was professionally successful, but I was personally bankrupt. I was 50 pounds overweight. My work lifestyle was Starbucks for breakfast, free lunch at work, and then a rotation of the best delivery food for dinner. Weekends were filled with drunk brunches and pizza.

I lost 50 pounds...without dieting

In 2016, I passed on my role as CEO of Women Grow and prioritized my mental, physical, and spiritual health for the first time. I combined the latest anti-cancer research with ancient Ayurvedic medicine to create vegetarian meals that even carnivores loved. I combined self-love with meditation and psychedelics to rewire my brain and body.

Without setting out to loose weight, I was 50 pounds lighter.

Once I began a daily meditation practice, I also started assisting with meditation courses in California, New Mexico, Florida, Colorado, and Hawaii. I arrived in Maui to take over a program from a chef who had just left with cancer. I knew I had to find a way to cook that was fun, fast, and detoxifying so I didn’t end up the same way. Meditation courses were the perfect testing ground because the dietary requirements were strict and the food budget is low.

This is how I came to create Flow State Cooking.
